Farm Featured in AAMI’s Biomedical Instrumentation & Technology (BI&T) Journal

Kate MacNamee, Senior Human Factors Engineer and Program Manager at Farm, a Flex company, is featured in the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation’s Biomedical Instrumentation & Technology (BI&T) January/February 2020 journal.

In the article, “A Neurocognitive Approach to Developing Safer Medical Devices,” Kate explores research surrounding attentional and cognitive control to suggest that the next generation of medical products and the research that goes into their development should be more considerate of human cognitive limitations (i.e., “Low-demand Design”) to reduce the risk of harmful error in the presence of automatic thought. The article concludes by providing examples of low-demand design principles and how they can facilitate easier and safer device use across the industry.
