Mechanical Engineering Co-Op

To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add a Mechanical Engineering Co-Op to our team. Reporting to the Engineering Services Manager, the student will learn effective brainstorming, design for manufacturing, prototyping, and documentation as they apply their engineering knowledge to real world problems. A motivated student will thrive in Farm’s fast paced environment as they participate in all aspects of the design process.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do…
  • Work on an exciting variety of products ranging from home health wearables to next generation therapy systems to surgical robotics.
  • Collaborate with industrial design, user interface, human factors, software, and electrical teams to produce successful product designs.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary brainstorming sessions.
  • Conceptualize, investigate, and develop innovative product architectures, parts, mechanisms, and assemblies.
  • Create robust design solutions using CAD (SolidWorks), analysis software, and lab equipment.
  • Parts procurement, including creation of Bill of Materials and purchase orders.
  • Assemble, and test prototypes to inform design decisions, refinements, and to demonstrate performance.
  • Present to clients and internal teams to communicate design value, tradeoffs, and recommendations.
  • Develop a personal portfolio of work you accomplished during your co-op assignment.
Here is some of what you’ll need (required)...
  • Undergrad, Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering student with a strong mechanical background.
  • 2nd or 3rd Co-op with applicable experience in mechanical design or medical products.
  • Demonstrated ability to use SolidWorks to resolve mechanical challenges and produce high quality CAD databases.
  • Electromechanical product experience.
  • Engineering simulation software (MathCAD, Excel, FEA, CFD, etc.)
  • Freehand sketching ability.
  • Basic machine shop skills (Mill/Lathe).
  • Previous experience in a consulting or other fast paced environment.
  • Experience setting up and running experiments in a lab setting.
  • Design of experiments.
  • Tolerance analysis.
  • LabVIEW or Arduino experience.
Co-Op Program Requirements…
  • Available to work 40 hours/week (in-person) for Spring 2024 assignment term (Jan - Jun 2024).
