Pneumatic Walking Brace

Farm developed short and tall pneumatic walking braces in multiple sizes for Aircast. The short brace is effective for postoperative protection and the treatment of foot and ankle injuries, while the tall brace is used to treat lower leg breaks and sprains.

Key design goals focused on cost and weight reduction while also increasing comfort and incorporating new proprietary features, such as a pneumatic pump, ventilation, and anatomical geometry. Farm engineered highly optimized part designs to achieve an 18% weight reduction while also increasing strength and reliability for 90,000 cycles of impact over the life of the product. An ergonomic rocker sole of composite materials was constructed to offer enhanced comfort and protection while promoting natural ambulation for improved mobility. The generous foot base was designed with ample room for dressings without sacrificing comfort; and the enhanced ergonomic design allows for increased compliance. The walking brace's pneumatic adjustability can be altered throughout the healing process while still maintaining stability and immobilization. The superior product resulted in Aircast's market share increasing by 30%.
