When Cooper Surgical came to Farm, it was with the goal of improving the function and reducing the cost of manufacturing its Sensiport Laparoscopic Entry System. Using advanced materials and manufacturing processes, including one of the industry’s first Titanium Nitride-on-Aluminum combinations, the Sensiport System could be manufactured with fewer parts and greater efficiency. Farm’s innovative enhancements allowed Cooper to reduce its production costs by 50% and reduce the overall weight of the device. The weight reduction allows surgeons a more predictable inserted position of the device when located at the surgical site, and more control over it during surgery. Farm improved upon the existing shield-lock safety mechanism through altering its mechanics. The refined shield-lock safety prevents a dramatic increase in the pressure required for surgeons to perforate the patient’s tissues, allowing more precise incisions and safer procedures.
