Farm-Sponsored Lawrence HS Gearheadz Robotics Team Wins Spirit Award

The Farm-sponsored Lawrence High School’s Gearheadz robotics team competed at the New England district event of the FIRST Robotics Competition, held in Boston over the weekend. The Gearheads walked away from the competition with a team award for their “extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit.” FIRST – For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology – is a Manchester, N.H.-based nonprofit founded in 1989 to inspire youth to participate in science and technology.

The award was a reflection of the team’s “exceptional partnership and teamwork,” said Farm’s Art Rousmaniere, lead team mentor for the Gearheadz and an engineering manager and principal mechanical engineer at Farm. Art said the students were “very proud” of the award.

The Gearheadz robotics team comprises about 30 students in grades 9 through 12. There are two teachers who oversee the club, Linette Heredia and Ana Shapiro, as well as several volunteer mentors from companies including Raytheon, Comcast and Farm Design, all of which sponsor the team.

Farm is extremely proud of the Lawrence Gearheadz, and although the team didn’t place high enough in the weekend competition to qualify for the national competition in St. Louis at the end of April, we are rooting for them to advance via an upcoming lottery!Click to read the entire exclusive Eagle-Tribune article.
