Industrial Design Co-op

Farm is looking for an industrial design co-op to join our product development group. The industrial design co-op will receive direction from Designers, Technical Leaders, Program Managers, and/or other management. The student will be joining our talented and dynamic product development group and play a critical role in creating the next generation of advanced medical technologies. The role includes collaboration on product strategy, creating user workflows, synthesizing data, problem framing, brainstorming, designing, creating mock-ups, sketching and rendering, developing solutions of form, function, usability, ergonomics and branding. Development of digital interfaces would be an additional opportunity to exercise or expand your skill set. You will help build convincing presentations that sell ideas through story, and contribute to our branding and marketing initiatives.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do…

  • Show a developing awareness of the overall product and its primary function as it relates to the user(s) and “system” in which it lives. Acquire knowledge through client inputs and formative research to inform the design process.
  • Possess some knowledge of manufacturing processes and techniques and applies design for manufacturing and assembly principles as needed.
  • Create necessary documentation to convey the design solution to design leads and management through sketches, renderings, handcrafted models, CAD and prototypes.
  • As applicable, design user interfaces, icons, packaging and graphics.
  • Engage with vendors for prototyping and gathering of DFx feedback.
  • Work with user research and mechanical engineering to implement a design that meets end-user needs and marketing requirements while applying a high value to functionality and manufacturability.
  • Interact with the research, engineering, operations, business development, and quality disciplines.
  • Provide verbal and written presentations to other team members that effectively communicate the value of his/her designs.
